You might've just written "Last," since I'm afraid that Jason, with his surprisingly lengthy analysis, might be alone in his degree of interest in this particular topic... or maybe he was just really, really bored today (been there!)

Again, the line of 70 11 23 shows up at the near best of a stat line. Corsi-against 3rd lowest as graphed.

So-

70 11 23
13/54 77 73
74 21 22
12 15 13/54

Scratch/carry 71, Mersch or Latta. I think it will be Latta, or maybe Dowd, but if Dowd you should let go of 13 or 71.

Yeah, 12 and 15. They skate the same, they both have speed, they both have passing ability, Andreoff showed some scoring finish, and most importantly it works for the PK usage, where the the PK tandems (11,23 and 77,73 and for me it's 22 and 21) skate the same line but also leave a very good 2-way stopper/scorer line for the first shift after a PK.
As is always said, if we gonna be a 4 line team, it's about balance. Kopi's should not be the first PK tandem out, rest the best and test the rest.

Yes that means more penalty kill time with his stupid penalties when he decides he doesn't want to play hockey (see 80%) of the time. He use to be a high flying pest that also had average puck handling skills and now he and Clifford are wasted space. Put those two on a line with Brown and you have on display why Dean Lombardi needs to quit being to loyal to his players.

You're right.

I just shouldn't write about a player on the Kings and the fact that his injury recovery means one or two (Potentially regular) forwards could be on waivers in September. Sorry. I shall remember that next time.

I'd love it if you took a solid long look at the idea of using 70 11 23, and 12 with 15. Seems like a natural solution to many problems, and won't hurt Kopi at all.

although i'd imagine little interest in andreoff, would there be any interest by other teams in king? perhaps his contract would dampen any interest in a swap for a draft pick...

I'm still pulling for a

70 - 11 - 12 first line

with 22 - 21 - 23 third.

Give that Shore/Brown/Lewis combo another change to make good on all the chances they generated. Was it bad luck they didn't score? Or just the way it is. I'd like to see it again before drawing a conclusion, but it seriously seemed like a ton of just bad luck for them.

Dowd would make a much better 3C than anyone else on this roster not named Kopitar or Carter. Shore is fine at 4C. Let the rest of the chips fall where they may.

Nolan is heading to the AHL I'm afraid. I've seen Latta's fight highlights. Give me Latta.

Sorry to Jordan though. He did score a couple of big goals for us.

I don't disagree that it's a decent discussion... for the middle of September, when training camp is still weeks away. It was just a little funny how seriously you took it, in light of that. If, instead, you had had a little fun with it and acknowledged the humor in this being the only thing to talk about at this point in a longer-than-usual Summer, that would've been amusing and I wouldn't have had to make the joke to entertain myself.

The "consec" line of 21,22,23 is where I disagree. None of those guys have exhibited "finish" with other players, either, really, besides Brown. Those un-scored chances may well be evidence of that, more than the ability to produce "chances" and therfore possible scoring.

For me it always starts with the PK pairs and trying to get them on the same line. With 21,22,23 you can still get 21 and 22 out there, and off the 3rd line it's a bit easier to have Brown and Kopi PK but still skate 5 on 5 with others, the rotation of 3rd line and 1st can most be easily compensated for coming out of the PK due to the way Sutter chooses the order of rotation of his lines usually. But I think the ideal is for the PK pairs to be on the same line 5 on 5, too. (Cup Runs)

So if I start with that idea of 11 and 23 5 on 5, plus that 70 11 23 always has great stats over a lot of playing time, I get 77 and 73 together, then 21 and 22 together. From there, it's really where you plug in the LWs and Gabo goes either with Carter or Andreoff/4th line.
I think Gaborik has a much better chance to score with Andreoff compared to Lewis or Shore or maybe Latta or Dowd, or another 3C. 12 and 15 have such similar styles of speed and quickness, Carter needs no real scoring help with Toffoli, and Shore can be allowed to concentrate on just solid zone play with no scoring pressure.

Thanks for the chat... we'll likely see all the above at some point, but I don't have the library of stats you do to look at a possible Andreoff/Gaborik combo. I still wonder what your feelings are on that possibility.

God don't I know it. This time of year is a struggle coming up with stuff to talk about so I apologize for that.

Hey at least it's not a Schenn article!
